Dr. Robert James Cerfolio is a board certified general thoracic surgeon trained at the Mayo Clinic. Although he has his boards in heart and lung surgery he performs non-cardiac surgery exclusively.
|
|
|
In 1999 Cerfolio was one of the busiest thoracic surgeons in the world. He performed 801 operations, predominantly for disorders of the lung, esopahgus, trachea and mediastinum.
He practices at The University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical Center which is on the cutting edge for new techniques and protocols for the treatment of lung, chest wall, mediastinal and esophageal disease.

Cerfolio has presented over 20 papers nationally and internationally on new techniques and results in thoracic surgery.

|
|
|
|
He has been recognized by leaders in the field as one of the best thoracic surgeons in the world in 1997, 1998, and 1999. He has given numerous lectures and courses for many societies including The American College Of Surgeons, The American Association of Thoracic Surgeons, and The Society of Thoracic Surgeons.

Cerfolio, a devout Christian and a former Academic All American Baseball Player in college, attributes his success to a team concept that includes thoracic anesthesiologists, pulmonologists, nurses and pulmonary therapists.
